So you are looking for a Scentsy Sponsor. Will just anyone do? What level of experience and success does a good Scentsy sponsor need?
You may choose someone who’s your opposite (an extrovert to your introvert, for example), or someone in whom you see yourself- and vice versa. It is important to note that one of the benefits of joining Scentsy is that Home Office offers the same training, resources and materials for new consultants, no matter who they decide to sign up under.
But don’t be fooled! Not every Scentsy Sponsor is created equal (and there’s no changing your mind down the track). So how do you choose your ideal Scentsy Sponsor?
It’s easy when you look for these 5 elements:
It is important that you choose a Scentsy Sponsor that you admire and respect. Look for an Independent Scentsy Consultant who has a good track record and credibility with customers, hosts and team (both upline and if applicable; downline).
Title and rank within Scentsy shouldn’t be your sole focus when choosing a great Scentsy sponsor to guide through your Scentsy journey. Don’t be afraid to ask your short listed individuals for more information about their commitment to the future of your business as well as theirs.
Does your potential Scentsy sponsor have achievements or skills that impress you? Are they someone that is well respected within Scentsy as well as someone you have respect for? A mentor in any field is a powerful role model. Look for someone who has the kind of life and work you’d like to have.
Also, choose a sponsor you truly respect. Don’t just go for the “biggest name” you can find.
*BONUS TIP Ask about your sponsor’s upline too. If your sponsor leaves the company you will “roll up” to their upline.
Do you feel that your potential sponsor is offering their authentic self to both you and their business? Are they a “do as I say, not as I do” person? Or are they providing a strong act for you to follow?
Do you to trust him or her? If you don’t see and feel authenticity, then you will never trust your sponsor. As a result, any advice he or she gives runs the risk of being ignored or at least compromised by your lack of faith in their opinion.
Before asking someone to be your Scentsy sponsor, consider first simply asking for input on a single specific topic. How did that go? Was it good advice? Was it delivered in a way that made sense to you, and filled you with confidence and energy?
Do they have the ability to relate to someone with less skills and experience as well as foster those who are old hands in the business?
3. REACH FOR THE WHY
Many mentors in Direct Sales derive pleasure from “moulding” someone in their own image. This can be great for them and great for you, IF you want to be moulded. But beware of sponsors who are too bossy, controlling, or judgemental.
Writing your own Scentsy Story is your experience and your path, not theirs. Find a person with genuine interest in your goals. They should ask useful and interesting questions and engage you in developing your own ideas.
Find a person who enjoys challenges and knows how to challenge you and help you focus your thinking. Someone who is driven by helping you pursue your “why”; someone who will be interested in you, not just big noting themselves when you achieve.
Choose someone with at LEAST and equal amount of passion about being an Independent Scentsy Consultant as yourself.
Communicate your goals during contact with them before signing. If your goal is to replace a full-time income and/or build a large team, a Scentsy sponsor who joined the company to get a discount on the products and nothing more is probably not the best mentor for you.
You want a Scentsy sponsor with similar passion who can share what has or hasn’t worked for them in the pursuit of their goals. Having similar goals (or having had similar goals), will be a tremendous advantage as you find your footing.
A common mistake made by consultants when choosing their Scentsy sponsor it to put an overly strong focus on location. Do you really need a sponsor who lives close by?
Sure, it might be beneficial to have a Scentsy sponsor who can help you out with a party or from who you can pick up product or business materials if you run out. But within the technology of today, a supportive and engaged long distance sponsor can be far more effective than a lesser alternative (literally) down the road.
