Why start your own business with Scentsy?

Something I’ve wondered about in the brief time that I have been working from home with Scentsy, is why doesn’t everyone want to do this? If you could walk a day, a week, or a month in my shoes I can assure you that you would feel EXACTLY the same way. I have joked to my team members that I have just wanted to stop strangers on the street and shake them, asking “why aren’t you doing this too?” The thing is, that it feels so damn good, you just want to share it- all the time!

I realise that there are plenty of people who already love what they do, but what about those that don’t? What exactly is stopping them from grabbing at the same brass ring that I was lucky enough due to pure coincidence to have seen sparkling away ready for the taking.

Some marketers describe the things that stop someone from making a move as an “objection”, I have heard one professional business mentor describe it as “crossing the terror barrier”. Whatever it may be, I hope to dedicate a short amount of my time to helping break down that wall so more people can experience the kind of “working” environment that I am every day.

I know what you are thinking: “Christie, if it’s so damn fabulous why on earth wouldn’t you want to keep it to yourself?” There’s two reasons why I don’t, and I will briefly go over them both for you now.

1. I would join every person in my neighbourhood if I could, because I am THAT confident in the depth of Scentsy’s potential customer base in Australia that I know it is impossible that we associate with ALL the same people, even if we have been lifelong friends, relatives or neighbours for a decade.

2. Scentsy is structured in such a way that it encourages you both emotionally and financially to share both the products and the business opportunity. Can I “make money” from my team members and sit back eating bon bons and watching my bank account grow? I sure CAN’T! Even if I had 100 people working “under” me at any given point, I not only have a contractual responsibility to train and support them, I also have to maintain my own level of sales to benefit at all from recruiting anyone in the first place.

In the interests of full disclosure, check out the chart below to see EXACTLY what separates a genuine multi level marketing corporation from a “pyramid scheme”

“Ok, Christie” you think “but there’s a catch in here somewhere right?” Really and truly there isn’t! Is it free to join up and Scentsy just feed you leads and pay you for holding down the couch? Dream on! There is a joining fee of $139AU + $13AU for the postage of your kit (*Ask me about the cost of joining in your country if outside Australia) and business supplies, which to be quite frank is a pretty minimal outlay given that you get over $100 worth of actual usable Scentsy products, business supplies AND a full demonstration set of testers. Plus, your kit is your window to opportunity. All of a sudden things are coming into perspective.

For further clarity, picture this- as a mother of three children, a basic dinner out at our beloved local pub would cost us more than the full amount I paid to start my own business. The month after I joined I could have taken us all out every weekend with my profits (over and above my start up costs). The month after that I could have comfortably managed twice a week! Next month, Christmas will be totally covered by my wage. I LOVE it! Why wouldn’t you?

Oh… you’re not a good sales person? Neither am I! I am not Donald Trump, I don’t have a degree in business, and I have NEVER worked in direct sales in my LIFE, or even considered it before now. Additionally, you don’t have to be a “sales” person to promote something you love and believe in.

Being yourself, being open and honest about your experience with the products, alongside a confidence that you are doing anyone a favour by sharing Scentsy with them is the best way to “sell”. It’s truly that simple. You don’t have to use any fancy sales talk, just be yourself and let the Scentsy do the talking.

“I don’t have time to start or run a business.” Because as a former SAHM (now WAHM) to three children under 5.5yo who is due with baby number four in March, 2014 I have time coming out the wazoo. Haha! But seriously, Scentsy is YOUR business, YOU are in control and you are able to offer it as much or as little time as you desire in relation to the goals that you set for yourself. Want to hang on to your 9-5 job while you get things going? Do that! What have you got to lose from giving something new a go? Plus, how good would it feel to give your day job the old heave ho?

Don’t let your “objections”, “terror barrier” or whatever you want to call it stop you from pressing forward to reaching your goals. Thought of something else that is holding you back from taking the metaphorical plunge into something great? Please feel free to contact me to allay your concerns.
