Being a Scentsy Leader: Teach, Inspire, Motivate!

As I delve futher into the world of small business I look for constant opportunities to teach, inspire and motivate. Not just others, but also myself.

Something that I feel is key in running a successful home business is mentorship. What is fantastic about the core values of Scentsy is that they prize the exact same thing. Part of the agreement when you invite others to join your team, is that you are bound to provide them with training and support. There is no “smash and grab” mentality of compiling as many recruits as you can and leaving them high and dry as you further your own career. Firstly, Scentsy is deliberately structured in a way that you would receive no benefit from acting with this poor level of empathy and ethics, and secondly after joining and being so soundly welcomed and supported- I would hope that few would consider that appropriate business behavior regardless.

Scentsy’s business philosophy of “contribute more than you take” is woven throughout the fabric of this direct sales company. This is immediately apparent as you join and you are invited into numerous training groups and added to contact lists to provide you with as much or as little information as you seek to reach your own goals.

Finding the right mentor can be invaluable as you are just starting out in your new career with Scentsy. Having the guidance and support from an expert will help you advance much quicker than if you were left to do it on your own. A good mentor is committed to helping you learn what’s required to be successful. Not only can they assist you with learning the required skills but they can also provide a much deeper understanding on how the organisation works and how to work best with the different personalities that you’ll encounter. All you need to do is look back and just imagine what it would be like if you were expected to learn how to swim or drive a car all by yourself, it would definitely make the whole process more difficult and some people might decide to even give up.
So how do you go about finding a suitable mentor for your business? The best place to look for a mentor is right in front of you. Is there an individual who you admire and respect? Someone who has always impressed you with their work ethic, or ability to think outside the box? Maybe your sponsor or your Director. Maybe it’s a Super Star Director overseas. It could even be the older individual who isn’t currently a top performer, but who you know has lots of experience.

Approach them and ask if they would consider being your mentor.  Importantly let them know what why you chose them and what you hope to learn. Don’t put it off. What can you lose? Even if they decline to be your mentor, and few will, they will be flattered that you asked.
